In 2020 seven councils in the Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance collaborated with 39 other Victorian councils and their Alliances to sign up to 100% renewable council energy. Driven by Victorian local government, VECO, or the Victorian Energy Collaboration, has contributed millions of dollars to the Victorian economy during the pandemic through the commissioning of the Dundonnell wind farm near Mortlake, which started exporting power to the grid in March 2020, and Murra Warra II wind farm near Horsham which will become operational in mid 2022. VECO is Australia's largest single emissions reduction project by local government, and every year prevents more than 260,000 tonnes of CO2-e from entering our atmosphere. Our seven participating Members mitigate nearly 19,000 tonnes of CO2-e every year in contribution to this total.
